Video - The Incredible San Francisco Artists' Soap Box Derby of 1975.

The Incredible San Fancisco Artists' Soapbox Derby, 1975. from Mike Haeg on Vimeo.

I stumbled across and purchased an actual print of this film back in SF while working on a project for the SF MOMA. Amanda Pope did a great job capturing the spirit of creativity and the event itself. I wonder where all of these cars are today?

Does anyone know where "the race" was actually run?

There is a What-A-Burger on Troup Hwy in Tyler Texas with a Derby car and driver and Marshal helmets from the late 1940's -- they'd be very interested in this (I would think)

Thank you so much for posting this. I attended this event while visiting SF that year. I have sought out pictures of it for a very long time. Finding this video was a wonderful surprise.

"There is some liability that some of you are on the track. Please get off the cement" "Get off the cement track or I will tell everyone that you died your hair. I know that won't please some of you."
